iWYZE marks first birthday by helping those in need
3rd June 2011
On Friday 3rd June, iWYZE Valuables Insurance, part of Old Mutual, celebrated
their first birthday with the children of Little Fish Nursery School at the
Usindiso Women and Children's shelter in Marshalltown, Johannesburg. The
iWYZE team hosted a party for 45 children and gave them a day to remember, with
everything from cupcakes to balloons. The organisation also donated food and
essentials to cater for pressing needs at the home.
While iWYZE's first birthday was in May, the party was planned to coincide
with Child Protection Week. "We believe that helping those in need,
particularly vulnerable and orphaned children, is a crucial part of building a
sustainable future," says Willem Smith, CEO of iWYZE Valuables Insurance.
"We wanted to celebrate our milestone by treating children who deserve a
memorable day of fun and making a difference in their lives."
Usindiso Ministries offers assistance and care to abused women, their
children and teenage girls, relying on donations. Vulnerable women and children
are accommodated at the shelter and are guided towards being restored and healed
- physically, emotionally and spiritually. It is a safe haven where all people
are treated with respect and dignity.
At the party, iWYZE donated about 200 blankets and approximately R8 000 worth
of groceries, including two microwaves, to the home. The donation was made
possible by an internal staff collection drive and contributions from iWYZE
clients and its management team. "We are proud and humbled to be able to
help this organisation and hopefully make warm the cold winter for the women and
children sheltered here," said Smith in his handover speech.
