Shelter for Women and their Children
The shelter for women and their children was extended earlier in 2009 to
include the 2nd floor of the facility and now has the capacity to accommodate
120 women plus their children. The extension happened due to the need for
sheltered accommodation increasing and also the need to separate the abused
women and children from the homeless women and children.

Child and Youth Care Centre - Teenage Girls Shelter
Usindiso's teenage girls shelter opened in September 2007 and is situated on
the 4th floor of our facility at 80 Albert Street. The Teenage Girls Shelter
has a capacity for 40 girls. These girls come from the streets and from abusive
situations and need a stable environment to heal and restore their lives. The
girls are cared for and monitored by Lily Rose, House Mother and child care
workers.
Our social workers work towards re-unifying them with their families, but if
this is not possible then being integrated into their communities is set as a
long term goal.
All of the girls at Usindiso attend school, as education is important for
their futures.

Little Fish Nursery School and Crèche
'Little Fish' is a fully fledged Nursery School that is part of Usindiso
Ministries. The Nursery School runs from Monday to Friday and has up to 40
children, who come from the shelter, and the very needy children from the
surrounding community.
The children are aged from two to six years, and are taught according to the
Montessori method, which does not divide the children by their ages, but they
learn and develop according to stages and the younger children learn from the
older ones.
